„After a verbal duel between the applicant and the responsible person, Ms. V.D., the latter ended up in the ER and is currently in hospital.” Believe it or not, this is en excerpt from a statement regarding a complaint I have recently received. What makes this shocking incident even more bizarre is that the individual requesting the information is not just your average citizen, it is somebody who works in the same municipality - in fact, it is one its officials. So, the real cause of this was not only the person's primitivism but something else too, which is, unfortunately, slowly becoming one of our traits - a widely spread animosity towards the people “associated” with various political parties. This is a phenomenon that often jeopardizes even the fundamental functions of the government, especially the application of new laws based on European standards. And precisely these European standards are the unanimously proclaimed „guiding principle” of all relevant political parties. These standards have long ago stopped defining governance as a rule, or domination, but as governing in the interest of taxpayers, i.e. the citizens. Nevertheless, it is not enough to simply proclaim something in order to achieve it. Definitely the best and the only way to confirm that they truly mean what they say is to fine-tune the behaviour of “your” people with the European understanding of what governance is. This is not easy, but it is doable and it has to be done.
