This year, our country could take a better place on the world list of corruption. It could take the first place on the Global Corruption Perception List (CPI), to be published in late 2007, as the only country that managed to root out corruption entirely. Not only that Serbia might do this, but such a place would be certain if all anti-corruption promises that the participants in the pre-election campaign are making were actually kept.
Of course, we all know what politicians are promising in their campaigns. Whether we like it or not, these promises are of a lesser value than those given on other, more regular occasions, even though the latter are of no particular value either. Unfortunately, this is why we know that most of the offered organizational, processing, staff and other anti-corruption ideas will definitely not come true.
However, it is indicative that we still haven't heard one promise that, considering the great amount of good will for taking anti-corruption action, was quite realistic to expect. It is a promise that those who after the elections get the opportunity to manage public financial and material resources will make sure that all the information about it must be made accessible to the public. Though keeping this promise would not take us to the first place of the famous CPI, it would definitely take us to a much better place that we are holding now.
