Belgrade - The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Mr. Rodoljub Sabic, addressed a letter to all presidents of Serbian municipalities, alerting them to the obligations of public authorities under the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance. Mr. Sabic points out that hardly 55% of all municipalities have complied with the legal obligation to file annual reports on implementation of the FOI Law and emphasizes that, “while progress has been made since the last year, overall, we have little reason to be satisfied with the enforcement of the right of free access to information”. The Commissioner added that the rules for processing information requests were frequently disobeyed and that refusals were often issued as notifications, instead as resolution with rationale and instructions of available legal action, as required under the Law.
