COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

The Commissioner launched the website 'You have the right to know' (www.pravodaznas.rs and www.pravodaznam.rs) with the aim to educate high-school population on free access to information of public importance.
The Commissioner launched this online guide within the scope of the project "Strengthening Accountability Mechanisms in Public Finance", implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme in Serbia (UNDP) and funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway.
While the Commissioner's educative activities so far have targeted mainly public authorities, experts and the public at large, the website for high school students is the first activity targeting youth with the topic of free access to information. The online guide was designed to be visually attractive for the target population, with the text tailored to suit its age.
The Commissioner considers the high school population in Serbia, particularly the students in the 3rd and 4th grade, an important target group considering that they are approaching voting age and that free access to information of public importance is a right which belongs to everyone, including minors. Raising awareness regarding free access to information among this population thus directly contributes to the culture of transparency and accountability and, more generally, to a democratic society.
In order to secure adequate promotion of the website among high school students, the Commissioner will distribute promotional posters which point to the website to high schools throughout Serbia.
