COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

03.12.2008.The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic today in the premises of the Office of the Council for National Security and Protection of Classified Data was handed a certificate for access to classified data assigned the level of classification "top secret" ("state secret").

The Certificate for access to all classified information, regardless of the level of classification, has an extremely small number of state officials, it is issued on the recommendation of the SIA, after conducting special security clearance, which is the most rigorous one specified by our laws. The Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic already has a certificate of the same level, and by this new certificate the right to access confidential data assigned the level of confidentiality "top secret" has been extended for a period of 3 years.

In this regard, the Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic said the following:

"This certificate is, in some situations essential for regular functioning of the Commissioner for Information. I have already had it, and its renewal I expected with certainty, since I was quite sure that neither in the work I do nor in private life I did anything to give any reason which could represent some sort of obstacle.

Coincidentally I am one of very few state officials, perhaps even the only one that is within just 3 years twice passed this security clearance. All the more incomprehensible is that practically at the same time by the Minister of Defence and some associates to security structures controlled by the Ministry, have been launched accusations, more precisely insinuations, about some alleged activities of the Commissioner against the Army, the state or do not know whom.

Regardless of what I think that any serious person could not believe it, because it would be practically impossible to pass security clearance if there was any truth in it, I am warning that minimum responsible attitude towards the state requires from anyone who discharges the function to refrain from such actions. Making such insinuations is an objective effort to undermine the personal reputation of the man to whom they refer, but, what is more important, the institution he represents. At the same time, assessments and activities of entities of the state security system - (Council for National Security and Protection of Classified Information and SIA) are made senseless and, consciously or not, the pretension that assessments of politicians or political parties are above theirs is expressed.
