The Commissioner for information of public significance acclaimed the announcements of the competent people from the government of Serbia that the information about the materialization of the projects from the national investment plan would be significantly more accessible to the widest public in the future, including also their presentation on the internet. The Commissioner estimated that the announced measures could give very useful results and that it would thus be very important to materialize them as soon as possible.
Rodoljub Šabić said among other things also the following:
''Constant advancement of the transparency of actions taken by the organs of authority and of the access to information about their work, particularly when this is related to the issue of disposal with significant financial or other material public resources is extremely significant. There is no doubt that this is the best way to achieve two important goals at the same time - prevent possible abuse and corruption and increase the trust of the public i.e. the citizens in the organs of authority.
The creation of conditions for a wider control of the materialization of the national investment plan, will certainly give positive results in this relation. Considering, of course, that extremely significant financial and other material public means are disposed with besides the national investment plan, it is necessary to take steps to also advance constantly the conditions for achievement of free access to information in these fields.
Our organs of authority must endeavour to organize and realise their communication with the public in accordance with the standards for free access to information, which have been proven in the democratic world. This means among other things, that the right to free access to information also has both its active and passive component. The first entails the right to request and get information, and the second one entails the obligation of the authorities to make accessible to the widest public as much information as possible even without any special actual requests.''
