COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

Expired

Thanking Serbian Journalist Society (UNS) for awarding him the Special Charter for Personal Contribution in the Application of the Free Access to Information Act and Assistance to Journalists, Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for the Information of Public Importance, said that this is the recognition of work of the entire staff of the Commissioner's Information Bureau. Commissioner invited journalists and the media to use their right to free access to information guaranteed by the Serbian Constitution in their own and in the interest of the whole society.

On this occasion, Commissioner Sabic also added:

“The work of the Commissioner and the Bureau was monitored from the aspect of application of the new law. Our work was monitored by independent observers from the civil sector and experts in the field and we have been given a very good mark. The same goes for the evaluation done by OECD, Council of Europe, EU Commission. However, in view of expending the area of free access to information, the recognition that comes from journalists is has a special value.

'At first there were few and sporadic requests from journalists and the media concerning protection of their rights, but they have been constantly growing in number. It is good that journalists and the media refer to the Free Access of Information Act when standing up for their rights. By using the social impact of the media, journalists can give great contribution to free access to information and help achieve important goals such as advanced democratic relations, higher level of human rights and fighting corruption.“
