Commissioner for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Sabic visited today the Police Administration for City of Belgrade. The Commissioner has talked with the Head of the Belgrade Police, General Milorad Simic, and his collaborators about the problems in the application of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.
During talks, the Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic stressed:
„For every transitioning country it is significantly important to change the conservative, outdated relationship between the power and the public. Openness and transparency of work are prerequisites of legitimacy and readiness to make data about one's work available to the public is the best way to establish and enhance the necessary authority for each body in power.
Problems in the application of the Law on Free Access to Information are still numerous. Still, it is positive that the people in the Ministry of Internal Affairs want to improve the public relations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is doing more on that plan, regardless of numerous objective problems it faces, much more than some other state bodies. As a support to that speak the new organizational solutions, decentralization of the treatment regarding the requests to access information and the activities on education of the staff for Law implementation. These measures already give results and we hope that in the future they shall produce even better results.“
