Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Rodoljub Sabic evaluates that yesterday protesting of the NUNS (Independent Association of Journalists) due to refusal of the District Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade to offer the public information about the flow of procedure due to tragic death of lady journalist Dada Vujasinovic, as well as regarding the repeated request of the NUNS to the Government of Serbia to provide for execution of the Commissioner's Decision brought on that occasion, are completely justified.
In relation to that, the Commissioner, Rodoljub Sabic has stated the following:
„It is an absurd of a kind that the responsible people in the Prosecutor's Office, even after passage of 12 years from the tragic event consider that they have no obligation whatsoever to give the public information what has been done, if anything, on that occasion.
Such an attitude is obviously disproportionate to the standards based on which attitude of the government and public are based in the democratic society, and of course, it is completely different from our Law on Free Access to Information of Public Interest. Besides that, the responsible people from the Prosecutor's Office should be aware that by such acts they only warm up already present doubts of the public that they are covering something up in that case.
It is very bad that the Prosecutor's Office even after the order of the Commissioner persists in not offering any information to the public, and especially worrisome is that the Prosecutor's Office is in its official communication on that occasion, besides else, using obviously incorrect facts.“
