Today, Personal Data Protection Day was marked in the organization of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection.

cting the prescribed preventative measures, while all other interested parties could follow the event live via Commissioner’s official Youtube channel.

Featured speakers: Mr. Milan Marinović, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection; H.E. Sam Fabrizi, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia; H.E. Jan Bratu, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia; Mr. Tobias Flesenkemper, Head of the Council of Europe Mission in Belgrade, and Mr. Mike de la Rosa, the USAID Mission Director in Serbia.

The Commissioner stated that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the opening for signature of the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, the first legally binding international agreement in this area. Also, ten years ago, the Personal Data Protection Day was marked in the Republic of Serbia for the first time. Unfortunately, this year the jubilee is being marked in specific circumstances due to pandemic. In 2020, with the challenges brought by the pandemic, the importance of personal data protection is quite noticeable, hence it is hoped that the changes to the Personal Data Protection Strategy from 2010 will be made soon. G. Marinovic thanked the EU and international organizations for their support to independent institutions in the Republic of Serbia.

Assistant Secretary General Zlatko Petrovic presented the Commissioner's publication number VI "Protection of personal data: Attitudes and opinions of the Commissioner", which is available today on the Commissioner's website in the Publication section.
