Today, World Press Freedom Day is being celebrated around the world. Celebrating this day, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Milan Marinović, calls on all authorities to respect the freedom of expression and the media and their right to access information of public importance. The Commissioner points out that the authorities must publish the information at their disposal in a transparent and timely manner.

"This COVID-19 global pandemic has shown how important the role of free journalism is, through the need to provide citizens with verified, timely and reliable information. The journalists have also fulfilled their duties successfully in these difficult conditions. Freedom of the media is the foundation of a democratic society, the rule of law, respect for diversity and respect for dignity," said Commissioner Milan Marinovic.

The Commissioner once again expresses his gratitude to all the media for respecting the privacy and protection of personal data of persons who are positive for coronavirus, publishing only the minimum necessary data in order to safeguard public health and reduce the number of coronavirus cases.
