COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

01.12.2008.Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Rodoljub Sabic, has spoken today with William Infante, Head of UN Development Program Mission (UNDP). In relation to talks, which had for their topic analysis of the cooperation until now and its enhancement in the future, the Commissioner, Rodoljub Sabic also stated the following:

"UNDP Mission in Belgrade is one of international subjects which continuously contributes to capacity building of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection institution. Accordingly, the talks were friendly, cozy and constructive.

The talks have confirmed already well known UNDP interest for enhancing responsibility mechanism in managing public resources in our country and readiness to assist development of those mechanisms. It is surely very good that such readiness exists, and that it is maintained, because that completely corresponds with objective interests of our country; that is, the need and necessity to achieve much better results in fight against corruption.

My collaborators and I, in cooperation with the UNDP Mission in Belgrade are for long now working on preparing, that is, we are finalizing compilation of the project the objective of which is more qualitative achievement of freedom to access information pertaining to spending of budget and other funds by the authorities. Financing of this project should be secured, with UNDP mediation, using foreign donors' funds.

During talks we have, of course, besides else, dealt in modalities of possible assistance of the UNDP to the Commissioner's institution, that is, to enhancing of Commissioner's capacities dealing in personal data protection. We shall continue regular contacts also in the future, and these talks have, without doubt confirmed that the cooperation that we have jointly evaluated as very good shall continue in the future as well."
