International Journalists' Federation, the biggest world organization with more than half a million members in over a hundred of countries of the world and the European Union of Electronic Media, the greatest association of national broadcasters, have recently, by the end of the last year, sent a letter to the UN Security Council with the requirement to secure respect of the Resolution on Journalists' Safety, passed by the end of 2006. The letter warns that in the last 12 months a huge number of assaults on journalists has been registered, including 173 murders, which is the biggest number until now, and that in the last decade more than 1,000 journalists have been killed. As extremely worrying is stressed that merely 20 percent of perpetrators are brought to justice. This appeal could remind us that, unfortunately, based on the number of different assaults on journalists, our country is on a relatively high position of both the European and the world lists. And it surely opens up a question - do we have those 20 percent of processed cases? The responsible persons would have to know about a couple of well known, tragic cases that are unresolved for years, and the public would have to receive documented information at last. Both because this would serve elementary justice, and because of the truth written in the quoted letter to UN Security Council - „there is no, and there can't be freedom of opinion and speech until the media representatives are assaulted only because they are doing their work.“
