Rodoljub Sabic, Information Commissioner, again reminds ministers.

Belgrade - Commissioner for information of public significance Rodoljub Sabic has sent out a letter to all ministers yesterday, drawing their attention to their obligation of abiding by the Law on access to information of public significance.

"I have many times before, pointed out to authorities to their obligation originating in the Law on access to information of public significance.  Problems in the application of the Law, particularly education of the new ministers and changes in personnel, may be a good reason for me to repeat it.” says Rodoljub Sabic in his letter to ministers.

Sabic points out to three important conditions for a better quality application of the Law. One of them is a legal obligation of the management to authorize one or more persons to act upon requests for information access. “Not appointing such person has created problems in the application of the law, or essentially complicated acting on it", says Sabic. Condition for a quality Law application is training of employees on the content of the Law and on democratic standards, the knowledge of which is essential for a quality reading and application of the rule of that legal document, as well as the application of it” emphasizes Sabic stating that until now this wasn't given adequate attention. Sabic reminds that this includes an obligation of government authorities to post, on their website a document called Information on performance, which will cover al important information on their activities. "Regretfully, even though majority of the ministries have posted this document, it is either not updated, or it is done so with tardiness.” points out Sabic.
