As things stand, information about projects from the national investment plan could become more accessible to the public in the near future. Namely, announcements have been made from the government of Serbia that this information would be published on a separate national investment plan site. It has also been announced that steps would be taken for the materialization of conditions for greater control of this significant state project by the public, from the competition which is to be organized, through the selection of the projects, to the realization of the means. From the aspect of free access to information, there is no need to comment the announced endeavours, be it sufficient to just say that they should be materilized as soon as possible.Over a thousand projects are materilaized within the national investment plan, including enormous means, around EUR 550 million just for 2007, thus the materialization of the above mentioned, with the prevention of possible abuse, could give precious results. Of course, there are also other even greater means and resources, and endeavours should also be made to expose them to the control of the public. But maybe it would be most logical to begin from the national investment plan. Because efforts made and means invested into the advancement of the publicity of work and accessibility of information about the work of the authorities in the modern world has been proven a long time ago as a very efficient means of control against abuse and corruption and is regarded not as a cost, but instead as a good, useful investment.
