NiS - To believe that the freedom of opinion and expression, media freedom, electoral right, right of citizens to participate in passing of the relevant decisions and numerous other rights could be implemented without free access to information of public interest would be an obvious, dangerous and harmful illusion, said the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Rodoljub Sabic, who has yesterday participated in the work of two gatherings in NiS where they spoke about free access to information.
In NiS Media Center discussion went with the media and NGO representatives about the analysis by the group of Slovenian experts within the monitoring of implementation of the Serbian Law on Access to Information, organized in cooperation with the American Lawyer's Association - Rule of Law Initiative (ABA/CEELI). On the second meeting, in NiS Assembly, Sabic spoke to the representatives of the local bodies about what is necessary to do in order to overcome numerous problems observed in the application of the Law. Sabic remarked that „everyday examples of obvious lack of knowledge of the employees in the bodies in power are worrying, sometimes even shocking, regarding the obligations they have according to the Law on Free Access to Information“ and reminded of the legal obligation to train staff for application of European standards.
