BELGRADE - Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Rodoljub Sabic said yesterday to Tanjug that besides positive marks his service received for the work effected so far, there is incomparably much more of the things it failed to do. Sabic, who was a day before yesterday for the second time elected by the Serbian Assembly for that function, said that he expects in the future a better climate for implementation of the right to have free access to information, because that is the prerequisite of the future democratization of the society and approaching to the European standards.- The Government of Serbia is obliged to activate the mechanisms for execution of the Commissioner's decisions, as well as responsibility mechanisms for those who deliberately violate the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Interest. In normative plan, in the next four years it is necessary to pass the Law on Data Classification, Personal Data Protection Act as well as the Secret Services Dossiers' Treatment Act. If we do that, we could say that we have compensated for the good part of lagging behind we experienced - said Sabic.
According to his words, the job of the Commissioner is to, if necessary, clash with the government on behalf of the citizens, which is as he added, not an easy task even in the societies which are more democratic than Serbian society.
- We are not in the compromising, good will terrain - we are in the law observing field, and I of course expect the Government and the other bodies in power to respect the laws. It would be stupid and bad to expect anything else - said Sabic.
